The Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy is pleased to announce its launch of the Disaster Resilience Leadership Certificate Program

The Disaster Resilience Leadership (DRL) Certificate program will provide individuals interested in disaster resilience and humanitarian assistance work with the knowledge and tools to develop proven leadership skills to help them achieve program success and promote resilience in those affected by disaster.  Leadership and resilience are crucial elements to disaster response success and the Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy (DRLA) at Tulane University is pleased to offer this 12-credit certificate program that seeks to provide interdisciplinary training to professionals and leaders in the disaster resilience and humanitarian assistance community. The Academy has developed this academic offering to guide leaders to recognize and develop those leadership skills that are most likely to lead to success in humanitarian aid and disaster assistance programs and, more importantly, to result in resilience to future disasters in the individuals and communities they serve.  The program takes a systemic and all-hazards approach and is founded upon four academic pillars:

• Psychosocial and Behavioral Leadership Sciences (3 credits - Fall semester offering)
• Disaster Operations Leadership Management & Policy (3 credits - Fall semester offering)
• Leadership Analysis (3 credits - Spring semester offering)
• Environmental Hazards Sciences (3 credits - Spring semester offering))

The DRL certificate is comprised of four separate certificate courses representing the four academic pillars listed above. Successful completion of all four certificate courses will earn the Disaster Resilience Leadership certificate.  The DRL certificate will better prepare individuals to successfully lead organizations and communities through the various stages of the disaster life cycle including preparedness, mitigation, emergency response and transition to recovery and future risk reduction.  The courses will employ case study and simulation techniques, drawing on current global disaster threats and past disaster events such as Hurricane Katrina.  For students who may not wish to pursue the full certificate curriculum, certificates will be issued for successful completion of individual pillar courses.

The Disaster Operations Leadership Management & Policy will be offered in the Fall semester.  (You may click on the course links above to see more details about each course). The fee per course is $2,595. Please see admissions for application deadlines.  Enrollment will be limited to 30 students per class and qualified students will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

The four courses that comprise the DRLS certificate represent the core course foundation for the DRLS Masters and PhD programs.  Individuals who take the DRLS certificate courses for credit may opt to continue and apply for admission to one of these Academy advanced degree programs.  Individuals who wish to receive Tulane University credit for their certificate courses must complete the application (here) and indicate that they are applying as a Special/Non-Degree student.  All application requirements listed in the instructions are required (with the exception that GRE examinations are not required for students only seeking to complete the certificate courses).

For individuals who do not foresee advancing to the graduate degree level or who do not wish to take the certificate courses for University credit may complete the separate application for non-credit students here.  Please note that anyone choosing a non-credit enrollment will not have an option of changing their credit status once the class has begun.  Applications for non-credit enrollees should be completed and returned with payment for the application fee and course registration to:
